Easy flights, connection made and I even slept on
the big jump over the pond with some pharmaceutical assistance. There was a tiny
delay getting into Roma which put me into the train late and facing the metro
during rush hour. Joe Bob says don’t do
it. Had to wait for 2 trains to get
close enough to shove into the maw, then tumbled out into my new charming
neighborhood of Monti.
A few shorts streets and one set of stairs
later, I met Lorenzo my padrone for
this visit. Lovely young man with
startling blue eyes and quite a fan of California. The apartment is a tiny studio that opens to
a back courtyard and a small private balcony.
Sitting with the doors open, a cooling breeze and listening to birdsong
is a relief after the hours of airports and planes. I can hear bells at our local church (the
Madonna dei Monti) and occasional neighborly conversation across the courtyard. This will help get the rumble of jet engines
out of my head.
Off for a walk, some food and bedtime as my
body tries to figure out where we are.
